Located at 380 S Lake Ave #107, Pasadena, CA 91101, Bu Pastry Bar operates as a coffee shop serving Pasadena in California. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.
Coffee in the United States is served by three kinds of places: national chains with drive-thrus and mobile ordering, independent neighborhood cafes that double as a workspace or a meeting spot, and specialty shops that roast their own beans or buy single-origin lots and brew them by pour-over, espresso or cold brew. Most open between 6 and 7 a.m. on weekdays, slightly later on weekends, and the busiest hour is the commute rush before 9. A drip coffee runs a few dollars, espresso drinks and specialty pours more, and tipping a dollar or a percentage on the card reader is customary but not required. Nearly every cafe offers free Wi-Fi, though some limit laptop seating at peak times or on weekends, and outlets are often the scarce resource.
The business lists hours on 7 days of the week. Typical hours are 9 am–6 pm. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. The listed phone number is (949) 771-4513. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone.
On Google it holds a rating of 4.5 out of 5 from 56 reviews, which is a strong result for a coffee shop in Pasadena and suggests consistent service.
Pasadena is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Pasadena follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

The pastry was really good beyond our expectations, we will definitely return again. We had caneles and they were crunch outside with moisture and softness inside, great texture is comparable to those high end pastry shops. The quality of pastry is truly a A+++ surprise for the neighborhood. Wish they had some casual table seats by the shop for enjoying their pastries and vibe in future. *** The next day, we are thrilled to go back again for more varieties and flavors. For a rare rainy day in LA, it can’t be better to have some hot coffee w quality desserts in afternoon. 😋

I ordered the vanilla canelé, strawberry cheese dacquoise, and horchata dacquoise. The canelé was delicious—the outside was perfectly crispy, and the inside was nice and chewy. As for the dacquoise, the strawberry cream cheese and horchata chocolate fillings weren't too sweet, which I liked. However, the texture of the dacquoise itself was a bit ambiguous; it wasn't quite like a macaron or a sponge cake. They have some unique canelé flavors you won't see anywhere else—a real treat if you're a canelé lover looking for variety.

New bakery alert in Pasadena! BU bakery located in the Burlington arcade off Lake specializes in French pastries, specifically madeleines, canales and dacoquiose. The madeleines are buttery - we really enjoyed the passion guava one. The canales have a crunchy outside with a soft flavorful center. And we tried a dacoquiose for the first time and loved the soft cookie and black sesame filling. The cloud drinks were delicious. There are tables outside to enjoy your treats, their team is super friendly and they have a choose any 4 box for $18 which is perfect to try all the pastries. Pro tip: Free 2 hour parking in the back!

We stopped by this café and really enjoyed it. The madeleine was super fresh — soft, light, and just the right amount of buttery, with that perfect just-baked feel. I also had the matcha, which I really appreciated because it wasn’t overly sweet. It had a nice, balanced flavor where you could actually taste the matcha instead of just sugar. Overall, it felt like a place that pays attention to the details — simple items done really well. Definitely a nice spot if you’re looking for a light treat and a good, not-too-sweet matcha.

Great pastry shop with one of the best desserts in Los Angeles. Everything is beautifully made and the quality really stands out. The canelé is probably the best I’ve had in LA — perfectly caramelized outside with a soft, custardy center. The pastries are consistently excellent, and the drinks pair really well with them (the matcha was great). The shop has a clean, stylish atmosphere and the service is friendly and welcoming. Definitely a spot I’d come back to whenever I’m craving high-quality pastries and desserts. Highly recommended. Free parking as well.
